課程概述

You know that human behavior is the primary cause of environmental problems including climate change. You also know that no change in human behavior will lead us to environmental catastrophe.

However, humans have been failing to change their behavior for sustainability. Why? This is the key question in this course.

I propose one potential answer to this question, i.e., the mainstream culture prevents us from changing our behavior. In this course, you first examine mainstream approaches to environmental problems. You contemplate why these approaches have been unsuccessful. You then learn an alternative approach called ‘the cultural approach’. The cultural approach aims to rewrite our cultural script for greater sustainability.

Through this course, I want you to see environmental problems and your research topic from a different perspective.
